Settings — Time Tracking

The Settings ▸ Time Tracking page sets your organization’s defaults for the running timer and billable time entries. It is admin-only (Owner / Admin). These are org-wide defaults; an individual timekeeper’s billing rate is configured separately.

Choose an increment (e.g. 6 minutes = 1/10 hour, the common legal-billing unit) and a mode:

ModeEffect
UpAlways round tracked time up to the next increment
DownRound down
NearestRound to the closest increment

Set the increment to Off to record exact tracked time (the default). Rounding applies to every time entry — both when a running timer is stopped and when time is logged manually in hours + minutes. The Log-time form previews the result as “tracked → billed” so it is always clear what will be billed.

  • Auto-stop previous timer — when on, starting a new timer automatically stops (and logs) any timer already running, instead of blocking you.
  • Default activity — the activity type pre-selected on new timers and time entries (Document review / Task / Other).
  • Require a memo — when on, every time entry must have a memo describing the work before it can be saved.

The rate a timekeeper bills at is configured separately — through their rate matrix × rate class, with the per-matter default living on each matter’s Staff tab.
